Week Ahead: November 2-6 — ISM, Fed Speakers and the December Hike Test
The November 2-6 week is light on top-tier data but heavy on signal: ISM services on Wednesday, November 4 is the marquee print, five FOMC speakers will test the ~68% December hike odds, Treasury refunding lands Wednesday and the Bank of England decides Thursday.
After a week dominated by the FOMC, PCE and payrolls, the November 2-6 calendar thins out — which makes each remaining print carry more weight. The marquee event is Wednesday's ISM services index at 10:00 ET. Consensus looks for 53.2, a touch firmer than September, with particular attention on the prices-paid component: a reading above 58 would revive the hawkish December narrative within hours. Thursday's domestic calendar adds only jobless claims and consumer credit.
The Fed's calendar is busy. At least five FOMC voters speak between Tuesday and Thursday, and the first remarks after Friday's jobs report will be parsed for whether the committee still sees a December move as the base case. The New York Fed president's Monday remarks on balance-sheet policy will set the tone for the week. Fed funds futures currently assign about 68% odds to a quarter-point hike, down from 78% pre-payrolls — a level close enough to the midpoint that two good speeches can move it materially.
Treasury's quarterly refunding announcement lands Wednesday afternoon. The market watches the coupon split and any shift in buyback operations for the path of term premium after a week in which the 2s10s curve flattened to its most inverted level of the month before Friday's jobs-driven steepening. Any increase in long-end coupon supply would widen term premium just as the jobs print argues for a softer path.
Outside the U.S., the ECB's Schnabel speaks Tuesday and the Bank of England's November decision lands Thursday, with rates expected to hold at 4.00% for a third consecutive meeting amid a services-inflation and wage tug-of-war. Euro-area flash PMI revisions on Tuesday are the week's only European data of note. In energy, the EIA's weekly petroleum report and OPEC+ technical committee chatter will steer a Brent tape still pinned between $110 and $116. The through-line for all of it: whether Friday's disinflationary jobs print was a one-off — or the start of the trend that lets the Fed pause in December.
